Dr. Gerardo Arroyo is a professor in the Department of Sciences Biological , Faculty of Studies Generals UPR-RP and member of the American Society for Cell Biology. He worked until 2007 as a co - researcher in the Molecular Biology laboratory of Dr. Graciela Candela (pioneer of engineering genetics in PR). His investigations were aimed at the study of molecular mechanisms that regulate the synthesis of spider silk, a protein of great interest for Biotechnology. About this topic, he has been co-author of various book chapters and articles _ published in journals scientists such as Journal of Developmental Biology and Gene International. As a professor, he has designed courses about Biotechnology topics and Forensic DNA analysis DNA, from the perspective of General Education. About these topics has been a speaker at insular and international conferences and author of related papers. He has also offered workshops to educators and professionals in Natural Sciences about these topics. At present, Arroyo directs the Department of Biological Sciences at the FEG-UPRRP and coordinates the "STEM evidence-based teaching and learning project" initiative in which he is dedicated to the design and evaluation of curricular innovations mainly for the teaching laboratories of CIBI courses. Since 2022, he has been dedicated, from the DCIBI, to form alliances and collaborating with community organizations and initiatives and schools of the Department of Education. This is how the project Working together for a comprehensive education in art, science and technology for our children and young people has been developed. Gerardo Arroyo Cruzado is also passionate about history, especially that of the city in which he grew up and in which still resides, Old San Juan.
