  • Alejandro Torres Abreu is an environmental sociologist and Associate Researcher in the Department of Social Sciences and at the Transdisciplinary Institute for Social Action Research (ITIAS) at the University of Puerto Rico at Humacao. He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Sociology from Lancaster University in England; a master’s degree in Human Ecology from the Free University of Brussels in Belgium; and a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras.

  • His research interests revolve around the interconnections between culture and environmental policy, with a focus on the political ecology of water issues, the public participation of natural protected areas, and participatory action research methodologies to promote environmental justice in Puerto Rico.
