- Born in Guayama, Puerto Rico. Received fellowships from NASA PRSGC, NASA JPFP, and NASA OSGC, and conducted internships at the Institute for Astronomy of the University of Hawaiʻi and the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory during her undergraduate and graduate studies. Asteroid (11456) Cotto-Figueroa (1981 EK9) has been named in her honor by the International Astronomical Union.
