Dr. Del Pozo has conducted ethnographic research with coastal communities for the last two decades. Del Pozo’s research revolves around the interplay of Quality of Life/Wellbeing of coastal communities and their access to natural resources. He has also studied socioeconomic and cultural aspects of fisheries management, natural/social disasters, and ciguatera fish poisoning. Recently, Del Pozo is devoted to the documentation of commercial fishers’ ethnotaxonomy in Puerto Rico.
Del Pozo has contributed as social scientist and fisheries expert with federal management agencies. He has served as Regional Manager for NOAA’s Marine Recreational Fisheries Statistics Project, Project Coordinator for HMS Billfish Report Pilot Project, and Member of NOAA’s Scientific and Statistical Committee. Also, Del Pozo has been a Research Associate in ECU and URI.
