Jaime R. Pagán-Jiménez has 30 years of experience in Caribbean archaeology and has undertaken fieldwork or studied research materials from numerous sites on this region, as well as on Belize, Republic of Ecuador, French Guiana, and Venezuela. He has also been professor of Caribbean archaeology and Neotropical paleoethnobotany at University of Puerto Rico-Río Piedras, Centro de Estudios Avanzados de Puerto Rico y el Caribe, Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (Ecuador), and Universidad del Norte (Colombia). From 2012 to 2023, Pagán-Jiménez was Senior Researcher in paleoethnobotany and archaeology at the National Institute of Cultural Heritage (Republic of Ecuador), the Faculty of Archaeology (Nexus 1492 Synergy grant, Leiden University, Netherlands), and Cultural Heritage and Plantscape Research (Netherlands).
