- Born in San Sebastián (Spain), is actually Professor in Spanish Literature (with special emphasis on Golden Age and Aljamiado Literature) at the Universidad de Puerto Rico, where she got her PhD. in 1988. Member of The Renaissance Studies Association and the Cervantes Association of America. Has lectured at Oxford University, Université Toulouse le Mirail, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Universidad de Oviedo, Los Angeles (UCLA) and Cornell Universities, UNAM (Mexico), the Instituto Cervantes in Cairo (Egypt), Tunisia, Algiers and Brazil . Received a Summer Stipends Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities during Summer of 1995 which enabled her to make the final check on Aljamiado manuscript “Tafsira del Mancebo de Arévalo” at the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (Madrid, Spain). Has published extensively in subjects such as Spanish literature (Golden Age and XXth century), aljamiado literature, Latin American literature, and comparative mysticism (Sufi and Catholic) in academic reviews (such as Nueva Revista de Filología Hispánica-Colegio de México, Bulletin of Hispanic Studies-Liverpool, Revista de Estudios Hispánicos-Universidad de Puerto Rico, as well as in miscellaneous volumes in Puerto Rico, United States, Mexico, Spain and Tunisia. Has participated in numerous International Meetings in the United States of America, Mexico, Brazil, Spain, Tunisia and Algeriers. Has published the book Tratado [Tafsira] de El Mancebo de Arévalo in Editorial Trotta, Madrid in 2003. Is currently editing a XVIth century Spanish Aljamiado manuscript in collaboration with Luis Fernando Bernabé Pons (Universidad de Alicante, Spain), to be published in Brill, Leiden (Netherlands).
