  • Dr. Kariluz Dávila is a professor of Chemistry at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus. She has been working at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus since 2006 in Science Educations, especially in chemistry. Dr. Davila is one of the authors and editor of books in Chemistry.  She also takes chemistry to K-12 students and gives workshops to teachers.  She is also the Associate Director of "NASA Puerto Rico Space Grant Consortium" which helps with the development of science and technology in Puerto Rico. She is also part of the initiative “Empowering the Next Generation of Latinas in STEAM”

research overview

  • The research areas of interest are Chemistry Education.  The topics in Chemistry Education:

    - exploring active learning strategies to help understand chemistry topics.

    - studying how addressing the need for basic concepts not previously adequately learned affects students' performance in their chemistry courses. 

    - studying the impact that mathematics has on students' success in the General Chemistry course.

    - study how to attract, retain, and graduate students to and in the baccalaureate in chemistry.
