- Born in New York City, Ángel Luis Olmeda hold a BA degree from the Department of Music (School of Humanities) at the University of Puerto Rico and a MA degree from the Department of Music in Theory and Music Composition at the Pennsylvania State University and a PhD in History. Olmeda is the recipient of numerous award and honors including the Musical Arts Corporation of Puerto Rico Award, the School of Arts and Architecture Scholarship, the Graham Presidential Award from Pennsylvania State University, the Center of Fine Arts of Puerto Rico Award, Composer Competition for Orchestra from the Pennsylvania State University, North/South Consonance Composer Competition, and the ASCAP for Young Composer Award. Some of the commissions received by Olmeda are from the Augusto Rodríguez Choral for the festivities of the 500 years of the Discovery of America and the University of Puerto Rico 's Cultural Activities Department for the Woodwind Quintet Aulos. At the present Olmeda joined the faculty of the University of Puerto Rico at Río Piedras Campus. Dr. Olmeda currently serves as the Music Director and Conductor of the Orquesta de Cámara San Juan, which is primarily a project of historical research and preservation of the music of the colonial period.
