  • Born in San Juan Puerto Rico in 1955, Daughter of Juan Avillan Rosa and Norma C. Leon. Was educated in various places of the United States- Washington DC, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Minnesota and Texas. Completed a Bachelors’ Degree from the University of Puerto Rico in 1980, a Masters in ESL from Universidad del Turabo in 2006, and Doctor’s Degree in Linguistics from the University of Puerto Rico in 2019. Was married in 1978 and had four children. Worked as a High school English teacher for 27 years and an English Professor for the University of Puerto Rico since 2013. During this time she has taught various English courses, offered numerous workshops and presentations on her research interests both in and out of Puerto Rico. Currently she is the developer and one of the researchers for “InDiLPE del Caribe- Inventario Digital de las Lenguas en Peligro de Extincion del Caribe” a web page annexed to the page of College of General Studies of the University of Puerto Rico in Rio Piedras.
