Dr. Eliana Valenzuela-Andrade is a faculty member within the Computer Sciences Department at UPRA.
She has fifteen years of dedicated teaching experience and a decade of research engagement.
Over the past decade, Dr. Valenzuela-Andrade has been ardently focused on innovative tools aimed at igniting the curiosity of young minds in the realm of computer science. She is particularly passionate about inspiring exploration of CS topics both prior to and during college, nurturing an enduring enthusiasm for this discipline. Collaborative projects with ISMuL and LASED at UPR-Arecibo have allowed her to implement engaging tools like robotics (employing Lego Mindstorms®, TETRIX®, and VEX®), computing without Computers, Scratch, SNAP, Alice 3, and more.
During the recent year period, Dr. Valenzuela-Andrade has assumed roles in organizing conferences in computing. Notably, she has contributed to the organization of events such as the TAPIA Conference, Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing, and Great Mind in STEAM, among others. Additionally, her leadership has extended to conferential initiatives on behalf of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, such as CCWIC (sponsored by ACM) and Explore CRC (sponsored by Google).
Her active involvement in key associations, such as Latinas in Computing, FemProf, and CAHSI, speaks volumes about her dedication to fostering an inclusive and dynamic academic community. Beyond her academic pursuits, Dr. Valenzuela-Andrade exhibits a fervent curiosity for cutting-edge computing themes, including cyber-security, internet governance, network communications, and beyond.
