Teaching undergraduate courses at UPR Aguadilla, UPR Arecibo, and UPR Mayagüez. Has successfully obtained funds from federal agencies, such as the National Sciences Foundation (NSF), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), to support educative and research activities for undergraduate success in Sciences, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).
Dr. Malavez's research projects use microbiology, molecular biology, and genomics to analyze the sources and transmission of bacterial antimicrobial resistance in food, animals, and clinical samples. Her research is intended to develop strategies to prevent the transmission of antimicrobial resistance.
